Hi there, I’m Emma. I’m the photographer behind The Bold Americana — a Kansas City wedding photographer who believes photography should feel both artful and deeply personal. My work blends editorial composition with natural storytelling, creating images that feel timeless, intentional, and honest to the people in them. While I photograph weddings throughout Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas, I also document maternity, newborn, and family sessions for couples whose stories I’ve often had the privilege of photographing long before their wedding day.

My background in photo media and fine art photography at KU (ROCK CHALK to my fellow KU Alums) shapes the way I approach every celebration. When couples hire me as their Kansas City wedding photographer, they’re not simply booking someone to take photos — they’re inviting someone who understands how to guide a day, read light, and anticipate meaningful moments before they happen.

One of the questions couples often ask when searching for a wedding photographer is what they should actually look for in one. Beyond beautiful images, the most important thing is experience — someone who understands how weddings move and how to document them without interrupting them, and how to work within the flow of a wedding day. A photographer should be able to guide portraits efficiently, anticipate emotional moments, and work comfortably with planners and vendors so the day feels seamless rather than staged.

Editing style is another important difference between photographers. Some photographers favor darker or heavily stylized edits, while others prefer light and airy tones. My editing style leans toward refined, true-to-life color with an editorial finish, allowing the images to feel timeless rather than trendy. The goal is that your wedding photographs look just as beautiful and relevant decades from now as they do today.

I also work with both film and digital photography and Super 8 Film, which allows couples to have the best of both worlds. Digital photography gives us flexibility and speed throughout the day, while film brings a softness and depth that many couples love for portraits and quiet moments. The combination creates a gallery that feels rich, textured, and deeply intentional.

Having photographed weddings across Kansas City for 12 years, I’ve become very familiar with many of the city’s most iconic venues — including Hotel Kansas City, The Bardot KC, Longview Mansion, The Kauffman Center, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Each venue has its own rhythm, lighting, and architectural personality, and knowing how to work within those environments allows me to create photographs that feel both elevated and natural.

Timeline experience is another often-overlooked piece of wedding photography. I help my couples think through the flow of the day so we create space for portraits, family photographs, and quiet moments without making the schedule feel rushed. A thoughtful timeline allows the wedding day to unfold naturally while still ensuring every meaningful moment is documented.

Outside of weddings, my work often continues with the same couples as they grow into new chapters — maternity sessions, newborn photography, family portraits throughout the Kansas City area, and sometimes I have the honor of photographing my past clients in their workplace by providing high-end headshots and corporate photography. Photographing these evolving seasons of life is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

Across every wedding, maternity session, newborn portrait, and family photograph I create, the intention remains the same: to document connection honestly and create images that will feel personal and meaningful for generations.
